Crowborough residents take action on 22 February and reject wasteful packaging

Crowborough says 'Stop wasteful plastic packaging!'

Fed up with the vast quantities of wasteful plastic on their weekly shop, Crowborough residents are turning up at Morrisons supermarket for a Mass Unwrap on Saturday 22 February from 10 till 12. Local residents, joined by Wealden Green Party members, will help shoppers unwrap.

With Morrisons happy to welcome shoppers and unwrappers to the store, the atmosphere is expected to be positive and fun. People will shop as usual, and when they leave the store, can choose to unwrap some or all of their shopping, leaving the packaging behind for Morrisons to deal with.

The event is part of a national Mass Unwrap campaign organised by Surfers Against Sewage. Its goal is to raise awareness of unnecessary plastic packaging and persuade the supermarkets that the ordinary shopping public wants immediate change.

Local resident, Anita Bryant, has organised the event. She says, "The more people who come the merrier, and the more plastic we remove then the stronger the message will be that we want the supermarkets to do more to reduce the packaging on the products we buy."

Anyone interested in attending the Mass Unwrap can simply turn up on the day. Simply shop, unwrap, and dump that plastic. You can find out more on the Crowborough Mass Unwrap 2020 Facebook page.
