The role of Treasurer
As a Treasurer, you are ultimately responsible for the local party’s finances. You need to ensure that appropriate financial controls are in place so that the funds are used as the members direct. You are responsible for keeping track of the local party’s financial transactions and producing annual accounts for the members to scrutinise at your Annual General Meeting (AGM) among other tasks. This role is a legally required role and the financial reporting you do is essential and legal in order that the Green Party centrally have the correct information in order to keep the Electoral Commission up to date, and prevent any fines for the Green Party.
Key Tasks
- Keep track of incoming and outgoing expenditure of the Local Party
- Produce an annual financial report, an annual record of income and outgoings
- Complete quarterly VAT returns via an online form
- Act as signatory on our bank account
- Inform the national party of any large donations over £500
- make payments for the local party (eg. Literature printing costs and room hire)
- Monitor and report on any General Election expenditure

- Capable of handling figures
- Some experience of handling budgets and controlling finances
- Attention to detail
- Able to understand regulations
- Able to work to deadlines
- Organised, able to multitask
- Keen to see the Local Party grow and win
- Basic IT skills
